Shepherds and Pink Tea Pots
In celebration of the Blooming English Summer, I took a quick trip down to the Hampton Court Flower Show to see what was going on in the horticultural world. I wasn’t interested in the digging and prolific amount gardening supplies on sale, more the feature gardens and displays that some of the green-fingered types had been creating just down the road from me.
I must admit that I was quite surprised at what was going on, my favourite garden being the Soft and Quilted (sponsored by a Loo Paper!) which featured dozens of Oak saplings surrounded by a kind of open palisade somewhat reminiscent of Stone Henge. It was actually quite cool.
A couple of other notable examples were the Shepherds Bye, which was great with an almost ‘virtual’ shepherd and sheep printed on glass – clever little touch as I suppose you couldn’t trust either of the real things to not wander off.
There were a few others with garden buildings, mostly kit form and/or having some kind of ecologically sound theme – all sounds a bit TreeHugger but I’d certainly like to open my back door to see something like Sadolin’s Nature to Nurture. Very cool, just imagine soaking up the summer sun, having a nice cup of tea and just relaxing here………….
Well that would be nice, but we were unfortunately repeatedly reminded that this was a typical English Summer – and we stuck with it until the showers finally beat us back……………. a good day though and food for thought, anyone up for growing an Exhibition stand????
